quarantine movie review
A remake of a Spanish movie called .REC, the abbreviation for “Record.”
Angie and Scot, a news reporting team shoots a documentary about the Los Angeles Fire Fighters. When the siren rings, they follow the firefighters to an apartment complex. Once inside, the apartment manager tells them that there is an old woman who was screaming and hollering for help. They go into the old woman’s home, where they find her bloodied and foaming at the mouth. She ate the cleaning lady. Then suddenly, all the doors and windows are shut and shielded by the government. They have sharp shooters waiting to kill if anyone tries to come out. It looks like the entire apartment is being barricaded and quarantined. Scott, the camera man keeps shooting as the events unfold. There is a deadly virus that turns humans into some sort of zombie or rabbied like animal. The virus starts to spread rapidly as each person gets bitten. The entire movie is shot like a news reporting fashion. It is shot through Scott’s camera. In the end, no one survives, not even Scott or Angie.
I give this movie a D+ for unorginality and messy camera perspectives. Though, the movie was pretty darn scary, I was very much annoyed of the camera views and angles. It was like “the blair witch project” all over again. The ending was also very predictable where both camera guy and news reporter dies and guess what? The camera keeps rolling. Yep, seen that one coming, too many times.

I know I’m gonna look stupid for saying this but…I didn’t mind it. As remakes go, it wasn’t horrible. Naturally, I prefer [REC] to Quarantine but it’s a pretty faithful remake. It’s a shame most will end up preferring this to the original but that seems to be how the American movegoing public are.

I’ve yet to watch REC, but you know… I dislike movies that uses camcorders as their means of filming. I’m so over blair witch project.
